Franklin was an influential person during the 1700's. He was not only influential in American life but also in the education system in general. Franklin strongly advocated for a system of universal education. Within the school system he believed strongly that morality must be taught. Franklin's beliefs were built on Lockes idea that morals in schools should be taught through the context of history ( Watz, 2011).
