Linocut started being used in around the 1860s and is done by engraving into rubber. This is a very similar process to the woodblock process in that it can be used by putting ink onto an engraved material and would be placed onto a material. A famous artist who used this is Die Brucke who used it in art between 1905 and 1913. An advantage to woodblock is that it has no directional grain meaning it will not split.
