21 dic 2014 año - Reimagining of
Grand River
Flood Walls
Descripción:
The current floodwalls that Grand Rapids has are being redesigned to focus more on recreational oppertunities for the people of the city. Instead of the high flood walls that are hard to get around, in some areas the old walls will be taken out and replaced with larger cement block stairs that travel down to the water. These steps will work for the citizens of the city to allow them easy access to the river with their kayaks or fishing equiptment or anything really with ease. Then when the river does flood the water will just rise up over the concrete steps and receide when it is ready too, still allowing publicing access rather than cutting off the boardwalk like it did in the April flood of 2013.
