WW1 started on July 28, 1914, one month after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. Austria-Hungary demanded Serbia to hand over the Black Hand to them.The Russians then defended Serbia, their ally, against Germany by placing troops against the German border. The Germans invaded France, as a strategic tactic, after the Russians refused to remove their troops from the German border. The Germans went through neutral Belgium which made the British react and declare war on Germany.
