A period of liberalization in Czechoslovakia under Alexander Dubček in 1968. Focused on individual civil rights and liberties, freedom of expression through media, and democratization of the government. The Soviet Union and other Warsaw Pact countries viewed the developments virtually the same as a counterrevolution. Soviet armed forces invaded the country and quickly occupied it, retaking the positions of power, reverting the country back to its original state.
