The English we have today comes from a relationship between the Danish and English dialects. The Danish influence came from the Jutes and Vikings, in particular when the Danes inavded Northumbria. Norse and Germanic Languages at the time were simple languages with short words and sounds and we didn't start to expand upon that until 1066 when we had French and Latin infusion.
