The explosion of computer-related terminology (e.g. byte, cyberspace, software, hacker, laptop, hard-drive, database, online, hi-tech, microchip, etc.) was one influence in the dramatic increase of new words in the latter part of the 20th Century. Later, with the rise of the internet, a whole new set of neologisms was generated (e.g. online, noob, flamer, spam, phishing, larping, whitelist, download, blog, vblog, blogosphere etc ).
