30 oct 1995 año - Bloc Quebecois Referendum

Descripción:

Many Quebecois were humiliated by the failure of the Meech Accord. This caused separatist sentiments to become higher than ever before. Amplifying the separatist voice, the national Bloc Quebecois party was established, and pushed for total separation from Canada. This was soon debated in a provincial referendum on October 30, 1995. The threat of separation was extremely high, with 49.4% ultimately voting "yes" to separation. This threat triggered the creation of new guidelines for future votes: the Clarity Act was implemented - calling for a very clear question to be asked during future referendums - and the costs for Quebec's sovereignty were highly stressed. Though the threat of separation has long died down, there still remains scars of unpleasant Anglophone-Francophone disputes.
