1 abr 1968 año - National Indian Brotherhood
Descripción:
The National Indian Brotherhood (NIB) was an organization formed by "status Indians" in April, 1968, to promote greater Aboriginal equality and general Aboriginal interests across Canada. Representation was accomplished through pre-existing provincial Aboriginal organizations.
Throughout the '60s and '70s, rights to self-government were advocated for, through the NIB. By the late '70s, hundreds of chiefs met in London, and later, Ottawa, to stop patriation and discuss a different government organization. This resulted in the Declaration of First Nations in 1980, which gave Aboriginal communities the right to self-governance.
