27 abr 2012 año - 19. Exhibition Catalogues in the Digital Age

Descripción:

There is no doubt that a printed book has a permanent value, but it must be recognized that a digitized copy (as an alternative and simultaneous edition, NOT as a substitute) with search capability is of great importance to art historical research.

Let's focus in this post on exhibition catalogues only. There are hundreds , maybe thousands of small catalogues of solo or group exhibitions published every year all over the world, often in very limited editions and without an identification number (ISBN). No library can have them all. And if available, it will take a lot of time to retrieve them manually from the racks and you will never be sure to find what you look for until you screen the contents manually, in many cases it means screening ALL pages.
