Descripción:

My database counts presently more than 100 works of Salvador DALI, entitled Venus or where Venus is depicted. No doubt DALI will score as the most productive modern 'Venus'-artist according to my forthcoming Topical Catalogue Vol. 4.1 'Venus of other European Countries' and will come far ahead of the French artist ARMAN with 71 works, listed in Vol. 2.1 'The French Venus'
PICASSO is less prolific, as will be shown also in Vol. 4.1, but nevertheless produced some 30 'Venus'-works of which many are imitations of 'Vénus et l'Amour d'après Cranach'. In his youth he enjoyed also the Venus of Milo (5 drawings), but has not pursued DALI's obsession with that famous sculpture (ca 35 works).

DALI got inspiration from TIZIANO for his elegant 'Vénus au joueur d'orgue', an etching and drypoint coloured with stencil from 1971. It is a reverse imitation of one of the three known paintings 'Venus with an organ-player' by TIZIANO, but without Cupid and dog.
