Descripción:

Carrion or raw flesh, a word first noted in c .1220 but much later in Yorkshire, in glossaries of 1788 and 1828 (OED). In Upperthong we have: 1688 we lay in paine that no ... person ... do put or lye any ket or carrion into any of the waters belonging to the towne (WCR13/168). In York, the former Ketmongergate; that is ‘flesh-seller street’, has spellings from the twelfth century: 1175 Chetmangeregata ; 1194 Ketmangeregate (ERPN291).
