The Selma to Montgomery march was part of a series of civil-rights protests that took place in 1965 in Alabama, a Southern state with deeply rooted racist policies. The march took place from March 7th to March 21st 1965 and included a 54 mile march from Selma to the capitol in Montgomery. The non-violent protests were met with heavy violence and resistance again showing how badly the African Americans were being treated for peacefully gathering.
