13 PLO militants shot at Israelis from a hijacked bus before seizing hostages in a hotel in Tel Aviv in exchange for Palestinian hostages. It was intended to wreck Israeli-Egyptian peace talks, but it actually ruined Arafat's 'olive branch' offer to the UN.

9 of the PLO militants were killed, and 38 Israelis were killed with many more wounded.
