Democrats started to take control of the south, which was bad news for the African Americans. They started to put restrictions on their already gained rights from laws and amendments made in the past. To try and keep blacks from voting, they were made to go through literacy tests, poll taxes, and grandfather clauses in order to be eligible to vote. The Jim Crow laws then were established. This law would let the continuation of violence towards the African Americans proceed. They were a form of rules to segregate those of color to whites because of the idea of white supremacy. Although the Jim Crow laws were practiced, the 14th and 15th amendments still were a part of the Constitution, and would later help them during the Civil Rights Movement.
