Harry S. Truman delivered the Truman Doctrine in a speech to Congress on March 12th, 1947. It said that the U.S. would further support Greece and Turkey, two nations threatened by Communism. The broad goal of the Truman Doctrine was to provide U.S. assistance to nations threatened by Communism, in order to fight against Communism itself.
