The HUAC, or House Un American Activities Committee, was formed during the early years of the Cold War to investigate communist-related activity in the U.S., often in the government. While the investigations of the HUAC did lead to some dramatic discoveries, the scare tactics and unfair methods of questioning that they used during their hunt for Communists led to the “Red Scare,” creating an era of distrust and repression.
