This is important because the National Organization for Women's goal is to take action to bring about equality for all women. NOW’s actions have helped put women in political posts, have increased educational, employment, and business opportunities for women, and enacted tougher laws against violence, harassment, and discrimination of women. There work impacted the Executive order of 11246 by president Lyndon Johnson, which required government contractors to "take affirmative action" toward minority employees in all aspects of hiring and employment and take specific measures to ensure equality in hiring with complete documentation.
