The 'Cult of Mao' gave Mao a special status, involving the worship of Mao. Mao appeared everywhere, and the young were indoctrinated into the unconditional worship of Mao. This attitude to Mao was developed by a careful propaganda campaign, where Mao was placed above all the other CCP leaders.

One of the essential aspects of the Cult of Mao, was the production of the 'Little Red Book,' consisting of many of Mao's well known sayings and teachings. The book itself was said to have almost religious powers, capable of performing several miracules when it was used.
