Reasons for the Cultrual Revolution:

- Mao's desire for permanent revolution. Mao did not want the revolution to fail. and wanted to make sure that old attitudes and behaviours did not undo the changes he introduced. Mao also opposed the changes that 'self-satisfied' officials had brought in after the Great Leap Forward. Mao therefore wanted to destroy any opposition in this permanent revolution
- Mao wanted to provide a test for young people. Mao believed the strength of the CCP came from its years of struggle. The young people of the CCP had had no experience of this, and Mao desired their involvemnt so they could identify with the revolution.
