Reagan wanted America to be safe against the " Evil Empire", the Soviets. While in office, Reagan introduced Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). This was the idea of massive satellite shields in space to receive and destroy incoming Soviet advances. It was thought of as the Reagan Revolution; and it could prompt a Soviet response.
