Descripción:

While the family sits tight for Darnay's trial, Manette tells Lucie of a window in the jail from which Darnay may see her in the road. For two hours consistently, Lucie remains in the zone noticeable from this window.

A wood-sawyer who works near her chats with Lucie while she waits, imagining that his saw is a guillotine (it bears the engraving "Little Sainte Guillotine") and that each bit of wood that he cuts is the head of a detainee. Lucie gives him money to leave her alone.

One day, a gathering of people descends the road, going a violent dance (called "the Carmagnole"). The dancers leave, and the bothered Lucie now sees her dad standing before her. He tells Lucie to blow a kiss at the window, in hopes that Darnay will see it.

Madame Defarge comes by. She and Manette trade salutes. Manette at that point reveals to Lucie that Darnay will stand trial on the next day and guarantees her that her significant other will fare well in it.
