The revolution started in part of the Catholic Church of Mexico being the main source of power. They owned and earned from about ½ of the land, they being the largest banking operation in Mexico, and giving generous loans to large landowners that created alliances with the upper class. The indigenous people and those who weren’t catholic were put at the bottom of the social pyramid.
