6 agos 1965 año - Voting Rights Act

Descripción:

Is the-most significant voting rights legislation since Reconstruction. It outlawed literacy tests and empowered the government to send Federal Voter Registrars to the south. It was buttressed by the 24th Amendment to the Constitution, which banned poll taxes. This legislation, combined with Voter registration activism in the south, created a new environment that allowed black people to vote. The result was, in many cases, black voters electing black representatives. It also marked the end of the era of non-violent resistance.
