There was a conflict between Chinese and Japanese troops near the Marco Polo Bridge. This developed into warfare between the two countries which introduced the Pacific side of WWII. On the night of July 7th, 1937 a small Japanese force demanded entry into the tiny town of Wanping in order to find one of their lost soldiers. The Chinese refused entry to the Japanese and then both sides opened fire on each other creating a growing conflict.
