Malcom X was shot before delivering a speech in Harlem. He was shot 15 times.
He originally embraced a more extreme approach to achieving civil rights “by any means necessary” but after his pilgrimage to Mecca, Malcolm X embraced a less confrontational approach. Advocating for black identity, his new philosophy appealed especially to the leaders of SNCC.
