The 16th Street Baptist church was a predominantly-black church in Birmingham that was also used by Civil Rights activists as a meeting place. This caused it to become the target of a bombing on September 15th that killed four young girls and injured others. The tragedy drew attention to the constant abuse and danger faced by those pushing for civil rights.
