On April 4th, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. King was standing outside of his room on the hotel balcony, when he was hit in the neck with a bullet. King was immediately taken to the hospital, but was announced dead hours after. King was just 39 years old when this happened, and this was a major shock around the country. King was an extremely influential leader in the Civil Rights Movement, and many people looked up to him during his times of leadership position. After the assassination, African Americans in the United States showed distress and anger, upset over the loss of an amazing leader.
