Descripción:

These songs are all tied back to one general theme: war. As the war became a very real, very daunting part of life in the 60’s, artists began to create music that reflected how their audience was feeling. The popular opinion on war at the time was negative, so many of the musical creations drew on the hatred and anti-war ideas that were rooted in the hearts of Americans. These songs are unique in their own way, yet all have foundations in the common opinion that war was both tragic and unfair. The organization of the songs on this mixtape is based on their lyrical meaning and message. The songs are categorized based on the year they were released. For example, "Masters of War" is a criticism of American leaders and officials, blaming them for a pointless war. "Eve of Destruction" is a protest song, that contains potentially racy, anti-government material. "I Ain’t Marchin’ Anymore" documents a soldier’s frustration with fighting in a war and killing others. Loretta Lynn in "Dear Uncle Sam" takes on the role of a woman who has lost her husband or boyfriend to the war. "Back in the USSR" is the account of a Russian spy who has been in America but has returned to the USSR, probably after his duties were completed. "Fortunate Son" is a plea for help from the middle class, who was forced to fight on the front lines while the upper class stayed at home with their families. The mixtape starts out with a song that sets the tone of discontentment with the United States Government and ends with the song that highlights the injustice of socioeconomic class that lasted throughout the war. The songs in between demonstrate the whirlwind of emotions that many Americans could relate to.
