Procter & Gamble, along with other national labels such as Nabisco, and Heinz, began marketing their products to consumers around the country. Around the same time, new retail chains such as A &P and Woolsworth's began to appear and market a variety of products. Consumerism played a large role in the American economy because in addition to goods being produced they were also sold and consumed.
