young children as young as 9 years old would work with big machines that could be dangerous and even deadly to small children. Lewis Hine a photographer used his images of children working in unsafe places to support his statement. This made it so in many states passed legislation that children could not work between the ages of 12-16.
The progressives pushed for a limitation on how much women could work. The believed that a long work week could detrimental a well being. The supreme court agreed making so that women could work no more than ten hours a day. After a fire in a New York company that was mostly by women, the New York legislature only allowed 54 hour workweek for women, didn’t allow children under 14 from working.




Women suffrage:
The progressives did not agree with women having equal opportunities in the work place. They did this because they believed that men were stronger than women. Women eventually got the write to vote in some states. The states that allowed women to vote also urged the others to do it as well. In 1919 senate passed the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote.




Workmen’s comp:
Maryland was the first state to offer workmen compensation in 1902. Workmen’s comp was to pay workers or their famous for disabilities or death on the job. some protection was federal given to federal employees under the Workmen’s Compensation Act of 1916.
