Amber Heard meet and greet
by Jeanne Larson
Charitybuzz is advertising what they call a “Meet Amber Heard via Zoom & Aquaman & the Lost Kingdom Cast Signed Comic Book.” The wording is ambiguous, making it look like you’re getting a signed cast if you win, or that the whole cast is signing the comic book even though this auction is only about Amber Heard. So let’s take a deeper look at the auction. They should be clearer in the headline. What you can expect to bid: Right now, there’s only one bid, even though the auction has been posted for days. And that bid is for $1,050, by someone called ‘Unsparing Bidder.’ Weird, but whatever.
The next minimum bid you can make is $1,300.
So, if you really have a burning desire to talk to Amber Heard, you can expect to spend thousands. According to the auction page, this package is worth $5,000.
And here’s what you get: “Join Amber Heard for a Zoom Call to discuss Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and receive an autographed comic book signed by the cast of the upcoming Aquaman sequel!
The comic book signatures include Amber Heard, Randall Park, Patrick Wilson, Jason Momoa, Yahya Abdul-Mateen, Dolph Lundgren, and Director James Wan.” So the comic IS signed by most of the cast. Good to know.
So, if you’re an Amber Heard fan, it looks great, right? Well, wait. There are a few caveats. The Zoom meet and greet will only last 10 minutes. So plan your chat accordingly. Have those questions planned out, because you’re not going to have her all day. You’re not even going to have her for an hour. Experience expires on Dec 17, 2022. So get it in while you can.
Experience blackout dates: Holidays. So be sure there aren’t any holidays taking place when you schedule your chat. That might keep you from getting your prize.
And further: The auction is valid for 1 person. So it looks like your spouse, bestie, whoever, can’t sit beside you and chat along. Just you.
Participant must be at least 18.
This is a private virtual meet and greet via Zoom. I’m sure glad they cleared that up, since they said in the headline that the meet and greet is via Zoom.
Approximate duration: 10 minutes. APPROXIMATE duration? That means that your chat could be cut short. Instead of 10 minutes, you could get 2, and since the word APPROXIMATE is right here in the rules, you won’t be able to complain or get your money back.
Photos are not allowed. Wait. If I get to talk to Amber Heard, I can’t take any pictures? Well, that’s a rip. I’d REALLY like to get a snap of her face when she realizes it’s me she’s talking to.
Sharing of login information is forbidden and can result in cancellation of the experience. This looks like a convenient way for you to get stiffed If they even THINK you shared their login information, they can cancel your experience.
Recording, screen grabs, or distribution of the session is strictly prohibited unless otherwise approved by the donor. So, no snaps, grabs, or recording of any kind unless Amber Heard says it’s okay? What do you think the odds are of that?
Zoom will be scheduled based on Ms. Heard's availability and potential alignment of time zones. This all kinds of slippery. The chat will be scheduled according to Ms. Heard’s availability? So all she has to do is say she’s busy and you could be out thousands of dollars and have nothing to show for it.
Description of the merchandise is as follows: The item is new. Well, one would certainly hope so.
Does not include a certificate of authenticity. For collectors, not having a certificate of authenticity might be a deal breaker, since you can’t prove that the comic and signatures are authentic.
The rules and regulations state that the prize: In condition as donated. Wait. Didn’t they say a minute ago that the prize is new? What’s up with that? Or do they mean the condition Ms. Heard is in? Given her reported chemical proclivities, that could turn out to be one hilarious chat. Too bad you can’t record it.
Cannot be returned or exchanged. So, no matter what happens, you’re stuck paying thousands of dollars with no guarantee of what you’ll get. That’s something to think about.
Experience cannot be resold or re-auctioned. So you’re stuck with it. Remember that.
Cannot be transferred. So even if you think someone else is more deserving, you can’t let them have it. Kind of a shame.
Blackout dates may apply. Again, slippery. WHAT blackout dates, and who gets to decide? This is yet another red flag that you could end up paying thousands of dollars only to get stiffed.
Additional shipping charges may apply based upon the location of the winner. We expect all winning bidders and their guests to conduct themselves appropriately when attending an experience won at Charitybuzz. Polite manners and respect for the generous donor and adherence to any rules or parameters are a must.
What behavioral guidelines does SHE have to follow, eh? Sounds like they can cut your experience short if they even think you’re looking at her the wrong way. Another way for you to not get what you paid for.
To be scheduled at a mutually agreed upon date, based on the donor's availability. They already said that part. Why the need to double down on it?
So there you have it. That’s the great prize for paying upwards of $5,000 or more. A (maybe) 10 minute chat with Amber Heard, IF she decides she’s available for it, you have to kiss her butt, and you’re not allowed to record it or take screen grabs.
And, did I mention that at the time of this writing, there’s exactly ONE bid? One lonely little bid. After being listed for four days. Meanwhile, in Rome, Johnny Depp sells out 800 tickets in 4 minutes. Shows up for free for meet and greets with fans and especially children, and stays as long as it takes to make everybody happy. His guards often have to pull him away.
Says a lot, doesn’t it?
