The Declaration of Independence is the founding document of the United States of America. This document declared the original 13 colonies as independent from Great Britain. This showed the people in the US that the government was trying to create a new nation. This document later made the United States the country it is today with the 50 states. This was a major turning point for the US because we still celebrate this today as July 4th.
