1409年1月，明成祖朱棣在北京昌平天寿山南麓兴建自己的陵墓——长陵，由此拉开了明十三陵的营建序幕。长陵选址考究、规模宏伟，成为十三陵之首，明代后续皇帝多效仿于此，最终形成中国古代帝陵建筑群中的杰作之一。
