29 mayo 1765 año - Patrick Henry's "If This Be Treason Speech"
Descripción:
Patrick Henry used his seat in the House of Burgesses to express resolutions to America's current crisis. Most of his points were things his colleagues agreed with; except for his last one, which challenged Parliament's power, saying that only colonial assemblies had the right to tax their citizens. He then criticized the king, making a reference to assassinated leaders. His fellow delegates then cried out, accusing him of treason to which he replied, "If this be treason, make the most of it." Although Henry apologized and confirmed his loyalty to the king, his words impacted Virginia and thus caused Virginians to become more defensive of American rights.
