The National Energy Act of 1978 was a comprehensive response to the 1973 energy crisis in the United States. It included five main statutes: the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA), the Energy Tax Act, the National Energy Conservation Policy Act (NECPA), the Power Plant and Industrial Fuel Use Act, and the Natural Gas Policy Act.
