1 ene 1764 año - British Acts on Colonists
Descripción:
-The French and Indian War was expensive so Britain raised their taxes on the colonists
-Their reasoning was that the colonists belong politically to the British, are British citizens, the war won them land in the Appalachians
-Salutary neglect: Unofficial policy where the British government mostly ignored the American colonies, allowing them to develop their own government and trade
-Under this, colonists treated the Navigation Acts as a suggestion instead of a law, they still smuggled and illegally traded things because the British didn't enforce it
-George Grenville's Plan: Sugar Act (tax on sugar, molasses, and other goods imported into the colonies), Stamp Act (direct tax by requiring a stamp on printed materials like legal documents), Quartering Act (required colonists to house and supply British soldiers in their towns), Currency Act (prohibited colonists from printing their own money - they had to use British currency)
-Virtual Representation: The British Parliament is not from the colonies, but they represent the interests of everyone (British and Americans)
-Sons of Liberty/Daughters of Liberty: anti-British colonial groups
