The first ever systematic study of autism in twin siblings was published by Doctor Susan Folstein and Professor Michael Rutter. The study involed 21 pairs of same-sex twins, where at least one twin was portraying autistic traits. The study discovered a link between autism and genetics, but uncertainty still remained around how this occured.
