10 mayo 1773 año - The Tea Act

Descripción:

The East India Company was not doing so well financially, so in order to help it out of its financial slump, the British Parliament put a tax on all tea that wasn't their own. This meant that the colonies couldn't purchase a tea of their choice without having to pay more money for it. In order to avoid paying this tax, they had to purchase tea from the East India Company. This caused an uproar within the colonies, for they felt they were receiving "taxation without representation." As a result, the colonists refused to unload the tea from the ships. This eventually led to the Boston Tea Party.
