Martin Luther in 1517 was unhappy with the way the catholic church was being run and thought corruption and lies had led the church away. He nailed his 95 Theses on the door of a catholic church in Germany and challenged them to debate with him about them. He founded the Lutheran church and from there, others including Presbyterians, Methodists, and Baptists, my personal church, branched off as the years went on. They believe, as do I, that people can read and understand the Bible on their own, and the catholic church was in too much control. Since the catholic church was rooted in the government, including the cardinal, they could run the country through the government in the name of Christianity. The Three Musketeers stories are based on the King's men fighting against the cardinal and corruption to protect the King. (5)
