Descripción:

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a U.S. law that gives a free and appropriate public education to children with disabilities in the least restrictive environment. First enacted in 1975 as the Education for All Handicapped Children Act, it was later renamed in 1990. IDEA requires schools to create an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each child with a disability that includes the services and support required. It also promotes parent involvement in school policy, safeguards students from discrimination in assessment and testing, and provides early intervention to disabled younger children. The act has been central to facilitating inclusion and fair education for disabled students.
