29 nov 1793 año - Carondelet Land Grant

Descripción:

What Happened?
The Spanish governor of Louisiana, Baron de Carondelet, granted land in Cape Girardeau (modern-day Missouri) to a group of Shawnee.
This was meant to entice Shawnee to leave U.S.-controlled land in Ohio and move westward into Spanish territory.
Impact on Shawnee Removal
This was one of the first voluntary westward Shawnee migrations, setting a precedent for later forced removals.
Some of these Shawnee later became part of what would be known as the Absentee Shawnee.
The Spanish offered land and trade opportunities, but when the U.S. gained control of Missouri in 1803, their situation became uncertain.
