In 1607, the British ships that would go on to start Jamestown and the rest of the American Colonies land in Virginia. After John Smith, who led the colony, got injured, they were left without a leader until new settlers arrived. While the colony starts out struggling through drought, they begin to farm tobacco as a way to make money, which soon leads to the enslavement of Africans in 1619.
