30 jun 1973 año - Draft is abolished
Descripción:
The last men are conscripted to fight in the war, although they are never sent to war. This is the last time the United States ever uses a draft, however, in the event of a national emergency, the federal government reserves the right to conscript again.
Today, all men ages 18-26 are still required to register for Selective Service in the case that there is ever a need to reactivate the draft in a national emergency. Failure to do so within 30 days of turning 18 is considered a felony and can result in a fine of up to $250,000, up to 5 years in prison, and, for US immigrants, denial of citizenship.
