British sent troops to America in response to the protests
- Americans didn't like this

Biggest protests were in MA (Sons of Liberty)

Colonists would constantly harass British soldiers -> British soldiers killed five people

Effect: people believed this was the beginning of the war

Two Sides:
- Sam Adams: massacre by bloodthirsty
- John Adams: defended soldiers in trial
