Dies murder without any reason Jose Maria Reyna Barrios
Illegitimately assumes the presidency Manuel José Estrada Cabrera, thanks to the support of an American company called United Fruit Company.
1920 - The Crisis
A popular rebellion declares Estrada Cabrera insane and forces him to resign, after this long dictatorship; opens a period of political instability that lasts 10 years.

1937 - Ubico reforms the constitution and is relected for 6 years.
1943 - The reaction Ubico is elected for the third time.
The Revolution - 1944 Soon organized civilians seek allies in the armed forces to overthrow ponce valleys. So on October 19, the honor guard surrounds the government palace. Civilians and students armed by the guard join the fight. The revolution triumphs on October 20, and Ponce resigns. A governing board is formed, and elections are held, the Renovación Ncional party is imposed at the polls with 86% of the votes; the new president is Juan José Arévalo
The great reform - 1951 On March 15, the new candidate of the Renovacion party, Colonel Jacobo Arbenz, assumes the presidency. Arbenz orders large infrastructure works and replaces the industrialization of the country; thanks to its marked nationalist tendency it receives the support of workers, peasants, teachers and students. Arbenz expropriates foreign companies especially the United Fruit Company and the reform becomes one of the deepest in Latin America.
The reform gives credits for production and training. And in 2 years the regime gives land to more than 100,000 farmers, who are organized for the first time in agrarian committees. A revolution supported by students, teachers, politicians, workers and soldiers who try to overcome the old inequalities seems to have triumphed.
1954 However, the true enemy was not defeated. The new measures implemented provoke the conspiracy of the United States that does not tolerate a democratic process with a socialist profile so close to its border and in the middle of the cold war. This coup with the support of the local Liberquia and the Catholic Church, that coup triumphs in 1954 and made back the greatest achievements of the revolution.
The Great Depression of the United States of 1929 hits Guatemala and forces a so-called Elections.
