THIRD ESTATE DECLARES NATIONAL ASSEMBLY: First real form of government declared by revolutionaries.
MEMBERS OF THE THIRD ESTATE TAKE THE TENNIS COURT OATH: The Assembly takes the oath vowing to "not to separate, and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the kingdom is established".
THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ADOPTS THE DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF MAN AND OF THE CITIZEN: The first formal Constitution is written by the Assembly, defining the civil rights of the nation. Strongly influenced by Thomas Jefferson working with General Lafayette.
