The Potawatomi signed nine treaties with the U.S. ceding their reservation lands.
August 5th, 1838 was the deadline for the Potawatomi to vacate their land. Most left, while others like Menominee stayed.
White squatters started invading Menominee's land and violence started between the two sides.
Menominee and two other Indian chiefs were jailed by U.S. forces for the violence.
