The manuscript of the Qur’an (Recitation) was eventually made into a 114 suras (chapter) book. They are organized from longest to shortest and only after the death of Muhammad. The picture shown contains the beginning of the story, Surat Al-’Ankabut (The Spider). The manuscript is originated from when Abd al-Mun‘im Ibn Ahmad donated it to the Mosque of Damascus. In 911 C.E. Arabic is read from right to left, similar letters are distinguished by dots or lines being placed above or below the letter. The text of the verses are divided by triangles made up of 5 gold circles. The beginning is marked by the elaborate gold thing. The paper was pre cut and the islamic people would calculate how much paper they needed. Scribes wrote in a style called kufic. These folios were very elaborate which made it hard to read, therefore the text was probably memorized then presented. Made in Arabia.
