Hungarian politician Laszlo Rajk was executed after a show trial.
With the communist party, Rajk was a cabinet minster (of the Interior) and organised the party's private army and the secret police (ironically setting up the first show trials) and was later reassigned to the Ministry of foreign affairs.
Seen as Rakosi's main rival for power, in May he was arrested and accused of being an agent of Titoism (anti-Stalin) and in September he was put on a show trial where he confessed to all charges. Contrary to what he was promised he was not aquited and instead sentenced to death.
